Why women love their cats more than their men
It's official: women who have cats don't need men. Here, women propose marriage and men can't refuse

He lifted the fish to his lips, agreeing in one bite to marry the girl. In this group of 50 islands, it's women who choose. They make their proposals by offering a dish of fish - equivalent of a man bending on one knee and offering a woman a diamond ring. To have refused would have dishonored his family - and in any case, why would he want to choose his own wife? "Love comes first into the heart of the woman. Once it's in the woman, only then can it jump into the man."

Spies are romantic figures: what's it like to be married to spy?
I was 21 and Charles and I had just got engaged. My father was in the Foreign Office... one night he said, "Have you ever wondered what I do?" I said, "I know what you do." And he said, "Well, not exactly. Actually, I'm in the secret service." I was very surprised, but asked if Charles was in the secret service too as he was often at our house talking with my father. He said yes. ... I said, "Well, I think Charles might have told me. It's a bit mean to ask a girl to marry you without telling her what your job is." My father said, "This is something we don't talk about. And the work we do gets no overt reward..." I just thought, "Woo-hoo, I'm going to be a spy's wife."

Men, Women Attracted to Sense of Humor in Different Ways
Men and women both say a sense of humor is vital to attraction, but what they mean by 'sense of humor' is different. "In our research, women said they wanted 'someone who makes me laugh,' and men said they wanted 'someone who laughs at my jokes,'" said Rod Martin. His work is part of a research on humor - exploring how subtle courtship cues revealed through humor can foster love. Many men agree that women who appreciate their humor are the ones they're attracted to. "Male egos are delicate; if she laughs it makes it a lot more comfortable."
